As follow-up reading to A Thousand Splendid Suns, a co-worker of mine recommends Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women. It is written by a journalist who provides a different look at the lives of Islamic women. The link will take you to the synopsis and reviews of it on Powell's website where you can read more about it and see if it is something you may be interested in. I was appalled at how women in Afghanistan were treated in A Thousand Splendid Suns, so I plan to read this in the near future to provide myself with a bit more knowledge than one novel.
Have any of you already read this? What are your thoughts?
